Isn't it Great!!

Reflections from our first week...
Wow, in some ways I can't believe we have really been here a week, and in other ways it seems like we have been here for eternity! The days have been full, but also slow! The nights have seemed longed, but not restful.

Our home is very different, but fun! They have painted it very fun and bright colors--bright yellows and blues and oranges. I will add pictures soon! It is fun to be outside so much. In fact, the other day I told Brady not to ride his bike in the kitchen, but take it outside. He responded by saying, "This is outside, Mom!" And he is right--everything is technically outside! We did get the kitchen screened in. But I'm not convinced it will help! In fact, today I saw more large bugs and bees flying in the kitchen than I saw before the screens were put up. The problem is...now they get in through the many large gaps in the screens, but they can't figure out how to get back out! Before, they were just flying in and out and I didn't notice! Now they are stuck above my head trying to get out! Ugh!!!!!

Can we say NOISY!!!!!! Hailey asked me the other morning: "Mom, do some people never sleep in Mexico? It sounds like some people stay up all night!" I must agree. Cars are flying by our home at all hours of the night, and it sounds like they are driving in my backyard! Fireworks go off at all times of the night. They are set off for birthdays, graduations, engagements, weddings, when someone dies, or any other special event! And often they are set off a block from my home--so it sounds like they are above our roof! One of these days I will tape record the various noises at night! Ear plugs anyone???

Did I mention bugs yet??? Or flies??? So, if you leave anything on the counter for more than 10 seconds, it will be swarmed! Ok, maybe not that fast, but let's just say that food needs to be eaten or put away very quickly around here! Hailey was eating yogurt the other day and set it down for a minute. She picked it up and found a fly swimming in it--she was so sad to have lost her yogurt, but it was a good lesson for all of us--eat quickly before the flies eat it!

So what do you do if you don't have a pantry? You put all your food in tupperware or in the fridge! It is very hot and humid here, on top of all the flies and bugs--so you have to store all your food in tupperware or large bins or keep it in the fridge. Many adjustments in the kitchen!! I think this will take me the longest to get used to and okay with! I like a clean, bug-free kitchen, but that's not the case here!

Well, there are more stories to come!! What an adventure so far! In the words of my dear husband, "Isn't it Great!!!???"
